Lighting Industry Product Development and Management
The advancement in technology has witnessed the lighting sector develop state-of-the artwork lighting products to enhance the livelihood of people especially in their homes and workplace. It is in this regard that most light organizations are ever looking for new ways and technologies that can make their products better with low energy intake. Development in technology is making conventional incandescent light bulbs almost obsolete. There are two types of lighting technologies that are poised to take the place of these incandescent light bulbs and these are compact fluorescent lamps (CFLs) and light emitting diodes (LEDs). It is common knowledge that if lighting industry players particularly in LED technology put more capabilities in packaging, they are likely to create the most cost effective products. The functionality of LED luminaire should be embedded with a chip to make it cost effective and much more efficient. More development needs to be done on shifting the current packaging architecture to chip level.
LED power supplies ought to be changed from the conventional delicate components such as electrolytic capacitors to stronger GaN-based power electronics which are smaller, cheaper and efficient. More development should be emphasized on the reliability of individual parts to improve their lifetime and reliability. Stakeholders in the lighting industry must take more emphasis on the development of smarter lighting metrics that may detect and predict failures that might occur from the light fixtures. They should also develop products that are powers surge resistant so as to avoid the abnormalities that are caused by such surges.
Color shift in lighting fittings has been a big issue in the lighting technology. There is need for the lighting industry to develop product with color stability, is reliable and longer-lasting. There is more that needs to be done in order to have a comprehensive understanding of the most acceptable color shifts and mechanisms in lighting.
With all these in mind, most light companies can develop products which satisfy the present needs in lighting technology. Consequently, product development and management should take center stage in light companies if they ever want to keep in line with the changing technology.
